Bringing Writing Coaches of Montana to Lake County

Writing Coaches of Montana is growing! Through a partnership with AmeriCorps VISTA, we’re working to bring our writing coaching program to Lake County so more Montana students can receive individualized support with their writing.

Since 1995, WCM has partnered with public school teachers to help students in grades 4–12 become more confident, capable writers. Trained community volunteers work one-on-one with students on their classroom writing assignments, helping them develop their ideas, think critically, and make their writing stronger. Our program is free for participating public schools.

Building a Program with the Community

Expanding to Lake County means building relationships with local educators, community members, Tribal and community leaders, and potential volunteers. We want to learn what local schools and communities need and work together to shape a program that will serve students well.

Our goal is to build the partnerships, volunteer network, and systems needed to bring WCM’s writing coaching model to more students in the region and sustain the program over time.

Help Us Get Started

We’re looking for someone who is excited about community engagement, education, and building something new. An AmeriCorps VISTA member will help lay the groundwork for the expansion by developing school partnerships, recruiting and supporting volunteers, and helping establish the systems needed for a sustainable program.
